Lupus Grants
This program provides grants for lupus programs for patient, public and professional education. In addition, Lupus grants can be used to encourage and develop local centers on lupus information gathering and screening and to provide outreach to women of color. Projects receive a maximum grant award of $14,000.

Public Health-Dayton & Montgomery County will continue the Lupus Awareness Support Group Program in the Greater Dayton community. The project will:
Increase participation in the program for persons living with lupus, their caregivers, and other interested persons.
Provide lupus awareness information to the Greater Dayton community through local radio, television, newspaper and the Health District Public Information
Department.
Provide lupus awareness sessions at Dayton area churches, housing projects, health fairs and community events.
Conduct monthly lupus support sessions at the Dr. Charles R. Drew Health Center.
Publish a quarterly newsletter that will be sent to all support group members, physicians and area organizations.

The Lupus Foundation of America, Northwest Ohio Chapter is dedicated to serving the population of northwest Ohio by providing continuing education and support to those affected by lupus. The goal of this project is to improve the quality of life for lupus patients living in Allen, Hancock, Wood and Lucas counties and their surrounding areas. This goal will be achieved by offering educational support group meetings on a bi-monthly basis at locations in Lima, Findlay and Toledo. A guest speaker will be invited to present prepared on one of a variety of subjects of interest to lupus patients.

Cleveland’s population is comprised of 49% minorities. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) prevalent rate is estimated to be 1 in 62 minority women, which is similar to the national average. Although SLE is more prevalent in African American women, support groups are not readily accessible to these communities.
The purpose of this project is to re-build an existing support group in Cleveland’s African American community.
The Greater Cleveland Health Education and Service Council (GCHESC) previously known as The Greater High Blood Pressure Council was housed at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland and has historically demonstrated the ability to access the African American population through the church. This project will be implemented in an African American church in Cleveland.

The Tri-City Lupus project will:
Provide supportive services to minority and other individuals living with lupus by conducting support groups in Oberlin, Lorain, and Elyria that will provide coping skills, health information, survival techniques, medical advice, social activities, plus sharing and support;

Educate minority and other women about lupus, through public awareness activities, including billboards, flyers, a speaker’s bureau and information;
Publish a quarterly newsletter;
Provide transportation services to medical appointments for persons in need; and Offer training to nurses at EMH Regional Medical Center.
